What's the difference, and what are

they for?

A tracker helps you find it.

A professionally fitted tracker allows your horsebox or trailer to be located if it is moved or stolen. Depending on the system, you may also receive movement alerts to an app and phone call support from a 24-hour monitoring centre.
Trackers often reduce insurance premiums and many insurance providers request tracker installtion on high value vehicles or trailers.
Without a tracker, only 15% of stolen vehicles and trailers are ever recovered.
With a tracker fitted, over 90% of stolen vehicles and trailers are recovered!

An immobiliser helps stop it being driven away in the first place.

An immobiliser prevents the horsebox engine from starting unless the correct code, sequence or authorisation is used. Even if a thief has the keys, they cannot simply start the vehicle and leave.

You can, and visible security devices are useful deterrents... But they rely on a thief being unable or unwilling to cut, drill or remove them.

A tracker provides something physical locks cannot: the ability to detect movement, locate your horsebox or trailer and support its recovery if it is taken.

For horseboxes, and towing vehicles, an immobiliser adds another hidden layer of protection by preventing the engine from starting or being put into gear, even if the thief has gained access to the vehicle, even if the thief steals your keys.

The strongest security is layered: visible locks to discourage the attempt, an immobiliser to help prevent the theft and a tracker to help recover your property if it is moved.
